The short answer

Spaceship SellerHub charges sellers 10% per marketplace sale, up from 5% on 11 February 2026. A one-day test of a 5% buyer fee on top of the seller's 5% was rolled back, and the overall rate went to 10%. Buyer and seller can negotiate who pays it. Checkout and self-serve links remain at 5%, so the route you use to close matters.

SellerHub is the registrar marketplace at Spaceship, owned by Namecheap. There is no listing fee, and names from any registrar can be listed with no extra fee. Payout options include bank transfer and BTCPay, and lease-to-own is available. Despite the increase, 10% with no subscription is still one of the cheaper ways to sell. For most low-volume sellers, Spaceship is cheaper than us.

An investor with recurring sales should compare annual costs before moving a portfolio. A founder selling an unused company name should first ask whether the buyer is already waiting. If so, marketplace discovery may be unnecessary and the checkout rate deserves attention. A fee increase is a reason to review your options, but does not by itself make switching the economical choice.

Rates read from a capture of the Spaceship SellerHub page dated 20 September 2026 (spaceship.com blocks automated requests) and Domain Name Wire, 11 February 2026.

What Spaceship SellerHub charges after the February 2026 change

Separate the marketplace commission from the payment route and the ownership handoff. A name listed for discovery and a deal brought through your own checkout link have different rates. The payout trigger also matters if you are planning when proceeds become available for another acquisition.

Who pays commissionNegotiable between buyer and seller. Spaceship's own example is a $200 sale with $20 commission, which could be split $10 each.
PayoutThe seller is paid when ownership is transferred to Spaceship, not when the buyer receives it.

Negotiating the fee allocation does not remove it. Decide whether your asking price assumes you cover the commission or the buyer shares it, then keep that agreement clear through checkout. For lease-to-own, review the payment arrangement alongside the asking price before accepting the deal.

The difference between listing and closing is easy to overlook when moving names. Being able to list a domain from another registrar does not mean the sale finishes without an ownership handoff. Keep registration access and the agreed payment details ready, and distinguish the platform's payout trigger from the buyer's eventual receipt of the name.

Spaceship SellerHub vs other domain marketplaces

Commission buys different things at different venues. Registrar convenience, a portfolio storefront and broad distribution are distinct reasons to pay. Match the service to how buyers find your names, then compare the full bill, including any subscription and nameserver conditions.

DomainsDealer12% Investor, 8% Pro Broker, 5% Brokerage$24, $124 or $249 a month billed annuallypriced listings with sold comps, bulk appraisal, buyer offers to your inbox

Names already held at a registrar may be convenient to list there, but convenience alone does not settle the choice. Think about whether your likely buyer searches registrar inventory, arrives by typing the domain, or needs supporting sales evidence before making an offer. Those are different selling situations.

A low marketplace rate is useful only if the venue fits the sale you are trying to make. Likewise, paying for wider distribution is a business decision rather than proof that a name will sell. Keep the commission comparison separate from your assumptions about demand, and revisit those assumptions when inquiries fail to arrive.

What you keep on Spaceship versus our plans

These figures are total annual costs, subscription billed annually plus commission, rather than take-home proceeds. Subtract the cost from annual sales to see what remains before other expenses. The comparison assumes the seller covers the full SellerHub marketplace commission and the same sales volume at every venue.

Annual sales Spaceship Investor Pro Broker Brokerage
$5,000$500$888$1,888$3,238
$25,000$2,500$3,288$3,488$4,238
$60,000$6,000$7,488$6,288$5,988
$100,000$10,000$12,288$9,488$7,988

Our Investor plan ($288 a year plus 12%) is never cheaper than SellerHub. Pro Broker ($1,488 a year plus 8%) crosses over at $74,400 a year in sales. Brokerage ($2,988 a year plus 5%) crosses at $59,760. Below the relevant crossover, Spaceship costs less, and we say so. Investor holds up to 100 domains, and Pro Broker holds up to 2,500.

Use completed sales as the starting point for your estimate, rather than the combined asking prices of unsold inventory. A subscription is due even when a hoped-for sale never closes. If your deals qualify for Spaceship's 5% checkout links, that is a different comparison and these marketplace crossovers do not apply.

Portfolio size and sales volume also answer different questions. The domain limit tells you whether a plan can hold your inventory. Annual sales tell you whether the lower commission offsets its subscription. A large collection of unsold names does not create the fee savings shown at higher sales volumes, even when the plan has enough capacity.

When to stay on SellerHub and when to switch

Stay on SellerHub

Your names are already registered at Spaceship. Keeping listings close to the registration account can suit your existing workflow, especially when you already understand the transfer and payout process.

Your asks are under a few thousand dollars. A recurring subscription needs a reason beyond a lower commission when you only expect occasional sales.

You found the buyer yourself. Use the 5% checkout link and compare the closing terms with escrow before treating the marketplace commission as your only option.

You sell under about $60,000 a year. SellerHub costs less than our plans at that volume, so paying us should require a clear benefit beyond fee savings.

Switch or add a venue

You do not know what the name is worth and are pricing by guesswork. Comparable sales can give you evidence for the ask before you change where it is listed.

You sell more than about $60,000 a year. Compare Brokerage against SellerHub using your own volume, and remember that Pro Broker has a higher crossover.

You want offers from buyers who are not Spaceship customers. A SellerHub listing is mainly seen by people searching Spaceship and its own marketplace. Consider another venue based on how your likely buyer searches.

You need bulk appraisal across hundreds of names. Review the portfolio together so you can spot asking prices that deserve attention before relisting everything.

Adding a venue can be more practical than moving every name at once. Choose based on the need you can identify, such as pricing evidence or a different buyer audience. Keep asking prices and availability consistent across your listings, and remove a sold name from the other venues so an old listing does not invite another purchase.

Price the name before you relist it

A commission cut does nothing for a mispriced name. An unrealistic ask can leave a listing untouched wherever it appears, while an ask below what the evidence supports can give away more than you saved in fees. Start with a domain appraisal with sold comps and inspect the comparable sales behind the estimate.

Look at how closely those sold names match the extension, wording and likely commercial use of yours. An appraisal informs your judgment rather than promising a sale. For a larger portfolio, bulk domain appraisal helps you review the names together and set asks from evidence instead of carrying old guesses into a new marketplace.

Set the ask and the amount you are prepared to accept after fees before negotiating. That gives you a consistent way to judge offers across venues. Moving a listing becomes a deliberate choice about price, cost and buyer access, rather than a reaction to the changed commission alone.

List your domains

Our interest, stated plainly

We sell subscriptions plus commission, so we benefit if you list here. We published the table where Spaceship wins anyway. Our case rests on listings priced with sold comps, bulk appraisal and buyer offers sent to your inbox, alongside the lower commission available on our higher plans.

Those features should earn their cost in your workflow. They do not guarantee a buyer, and the annual volume comparison assumes equivalent sales rather than predicting them. If you already have a buyer and a suitable checkout route, or your sales stay below the relevant crossover, use the cheaper option that meets your needs.

Questions people ask about Spaceship SellerHub

What commission does Spaceship SellerHub charge?

Spaceship SellerHub charges 10% on marketplace sales and 5% on checkout and self-serve links. There is no listing fee or subscription, and listing a name registered elsewhere carries no extra fee. Buyer and seller can negotiate how to divide the commission, so agree on the allocation before closing.

Did Spaceship raise its SellerHub commission?

Yes. SellerHub raised its marketplace commission from 5% to 10% on 11 February 2026. A one-day test added a 5% buyer fee to the existing 5% seller fee, then was rolled back in favor of the overall 10% rate. Checkout and self-serve links stayed at 5%.

Who pays the commission on Spaceship SellerHub?

The buyer and seller can negotiate who pays the commission. Spaceship illustrates this with a $200 sale carrying a $20 commission, which could be split $10 each. Sharing the fee changes what each party pays, but it does not reduce the total commission charged on that transaction.

Is Spaceship SellerHub cheaper than Afternic?

Yes, on published marketplace commission. SellerHub charges 10%, while Afternic charges 15% with Afternic nameservers or 25% otherwise, with a $15 minimum. Afternic offers the widest registrar distribution in this comparison. A higher fee can still make sense if that distribution connects your name with a buyer.

Can I sell a domain on Spaceship if it is registered somewhere else?

Yes. SellerHub accepts names held at other registrars without an extra listing fee. You do not need to move registration just to list. Ownership still has to be transferred to Spaceship for the seller payout, so check the transfer requirements before agreeing to a closing schedule with your buyer.

How do I get paid on Spaceship SellerHub?

Spaceship pays the seller when ownership is transferred to Spaceship, rather than waiting until the buyer receives the name. Bank transfer and other payout options, including BTCPay, are available. Check the payout method for your transaction before accepting an offer, especially if you have a preferred way to receive proceeds.

What is the cheapest place to sell a domain?

Sav.com at 4% is the lowest marketplace rate we track. For a buyer you found yourself, compare a checkout link or escrow instead. Escrow.com standard pricing is 2.6% up to $5,000 with a $50 minimum. The cheapest choice depends on whether you need a marketplace to find the buyer.

What is the best Spaceship SellerHub alternative?

It depends on the job. Sav.com suits sellers seeking the lowest marketplace rate, and Afternic suits those seeking the widest registrar distribution. DomainsDealer suits comps-priced listings and annual volume above about $60,000 on Brokerage. At lower volume, SellerHub often costs less than our subscriptions plus commission.
